It all began, simply, with the production of a custom-made specialty olive oil. From there, through various business opportunities and alignments, we expanded our operations into a global, highly respected supplier of quality in-flight food products.
By building strong business relationships within the food industry and developing a sharp eye for recognizing the need for quality food service, Nick De Astis realized he could evolve the business into a company that offered a solutions-based, strategically focused approach to food supply services. DFS quickly grew from a single commodity meal component to full scale meal design and production. Operations have now expanded to include four Chicagoland production plants and one in Southern Italy. By foreseeing a growing demand for fully designed and prepared meals, Nick and Diego De Astis developed a business foundation in the production and procurement of in-flight food products.

1993: The creation of Direct Food Service, Inc.
1995: The first DFS meal was served on an aircraft
2000: IFSA (Int'l Flight Service Assoc.) affiliation began
2002: DFS expands into other transit arenas
2013/2014: Awarded Supplier of the Year for Major Airline
