Nick De Astis  In 1985, Nick seized an opportunity to enter into the retail food business and co-founded a small retail food establishment, Asti Italian Deli, featuring imported food products. Always maintaining a keen eye for opportunity and prioritizing personalized service in establishing a viable sales organization, Nick quickly turned an urgent request for procuring an in-flight commodity food product into a full-blown business venture - Direct Food Service, Inc.  He determined that there was a growing demand from his existing clients for fully prepared premium and economy class in-flight meals. Partnering with a local manufacturing operation capable of producing such products was pivotal in the expansion of DFS; thus began the partnership with Perfect Pasta Incorporated in Addison, IL. Nick continues to expand the company's profile to include not only in-flight meals and food products, but also meals and food products for the train and cruise line industries.  


Diego De Astis was brought on board in 1999 by his brother Nick to help run the quickly expanding Direct Food Service, Inc company. As co-owner of Asti Italian Deli since 1985, Diego brings more than 30 years of food industry experience to the table, and has spent his career providing the highest quality of food and top notch service to consumers using the highest level of food safety standards. He focuses on developing global partnerships and has built a personal brand for DFS that is synonymous with integrity. His determination and dedication to providing quality food has made an impact on travelers everywhere. As a member of the IFSA (International Flight Services Association) since 2001, Diego has been heavily involved in planning and representing at annual conventions worldwide, and continues to dedicate his experience and expertise where it is essential. 


Chef Leyla has worked in the culinary industry for over 20 years. As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Napa, she has worked at some of the top  four-star restaurants and luxury hotels in the world, like the Ritz Carlton Chicago and the Mandarin Orient in Hong Kong under Chef John-George Vongerichten.  Her career highlights include providing her culinary expertise for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics; traveling with the Rolling Stones throughout their "Bridges to Babylon North American Tour" as their private chef; and becoming part of Whole Foods Prepared Foods chef team that oversaw the development of 11 stores. However, it is her position at Direct Food Service that she is most proud of. Since coming on board in 2014, she has created signature dishes that reflect her uncompromising commitment to great cuisine and currently oversees R&D and production for U.S. "outbound" in DFS's multiple Chicagoland facilities as well as "inbound" at their plant in Southern Italy.
